Summer
For those of you wanting an active holiday then Salzkammergut is the perfect choice. Waterskiing, wakeboerding, tubing and kitesurfing, plus safe bathing are features of the lakes. For more landbased activities there are numerous signposted walking tracks around the lakes and mountains, plus cycle tracks and testing mountain tracks for mountain bikers. For more relaxing holiday ferries are available on most of the lakes and lakeside seating areas are the perfect way to relax. Full and half-day tours take in Salzburg, Hallstatt, The lakes Tour, Berchtesgarden, and the Czech Republic. The Schafberg mountain peak can be reached by the historic cog railway. And the Zwölferhorn mountain in St. Gilgen by cable car.
Winter
The winter season starts with the Advent markets in St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen and Strobl. These traditional markets sell authentic advent products, display local wood carvings of the nativity scenes, plus a range of winter clothes, hot food and warming winter drinks. For Winter sports the area is perfect for both beginners and experienced skiers and snowboarders. The Postalm ski area has gentle slopes for those learning to ski, with expert tuition if needed. For more experienced skiers and boaders the Dachstein range of mountains presents more of a challenge. For non-skiers there are a range of activities. Cross country skiing, snowshoe walking, or relaxing in the spas at the White Hores Inn in St. Wolfgang or the Eurotherme in Bad Ischl.
